Evert Carl Shannon, 92 of Black Rock Arkansas died peacefully at his home on Tuesday February 11, 2020.
He was born March 20, 1927 in Lauratown Township, Arkansas to Henry Shannon & Gertie (Emerton) Pickney Shannon. At a young age he left Arkansas and moved to Minnesota where he met and married Caroline Johnson in 1943. They eventually settled in Forest Lake where the raised their 5 children. He built his dream home there and helped out with their home based business, Shannon Upholstery.
He enjoyed being outdoors and staying busy. He could usually be found chopping down trees, mowing lawn or "tinkering" with something. In the mid 70's he found his adventurous side and came home with a new Harley Davidson. Although he had never driven a motorcycle he soon caught on and he and Caroline spent many summers riding around the United States visiting family and seeing the sights.
He drove semi for many years for Briggs Transportation hauling freight across the upper mid-west. After retiring he and Caroline moved to Aitkin Minnesota then became snowbirds and moved to Florida. After Caroline's death he moved back to his home state of Arkansas. There he met and married Elaine and lived in his home town until the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Caroline, daughter Ellen Colleen, great grandson Jeremy Swenson; brothers William Shannon & Harry Pickney, sisters Willene Harmon & Mary Mae Rice.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Shannon; daughters Evelyn (Dean) Gardner, Enita (Charles) Jeske & Elizabeth (Clayton) Beachler; sons, Eldon (Paula) Shannon & Elery Shannon; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Jane Barton, Wanda Ragsdale, Betty (Larry) Monehan, Ruby Putt & sister in law Faye Shannon; brothers James (June) Pickney & Joe Pickney. As well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, White Bear Lake, MN.
