Floyd Michael Hale, age 78 of Stillwater, MN passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024 in his Stillwater home surrounded by family.
Floyd was born on May 22, 1945, to Floyd and Agnes (Zappa) Hale in St. Paul, MN. He was married to Shirley (nee Simon) for 51 years. They made their home in several places around the country including Oakdale, MN, Lansdale, PA, Salt Lake City, UT, Middleton, NJ, Austin, TX, Crosby, MN and lastly Stillwater, MN. They lived their dream for 26 years in Crosby in a log house on Perry Lake. Floyd often said, "I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be". They enjoyed fishing, water-skiing, cross-country skiing, hunting and building nature trails throughout their property.
On September 1, 1965 Floyd enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. He served his country for 6 years as a Field Radio Repairman. While in the Reserves, he continued his studies and graduated from U of M with a Bachelor of Science degree in business, and later received a Master of Science in Applied Psychology/Behavior Analysis from St. Cloud State University. He also received electronics training from DeVry Technical Institute.
Floyd spent 30 years in the computer industry employed by Unisys, Concurrent Computer Corp, and Tandem, Integrity Systems Div. His extensive background included systems programming, technical support and service, product management, marketing, and corporate organization development. He served as a corporate spokesperson to industry consultants and business press. At age 57, he changed careers after receiving his Master's degree and worked as a behavioral analyst at the MN State Traumatic Brain Injury Hospital. After 10 years, he retired as Director of the hospital.
His professional and community participation included Central Lakes College Citizens Advisory Board, Kinship Partners Advisory Council and mentor. He co-chaired the Economic Development Committee for the Cuyuna Range Healthy Communities/Healthy Partnership program and proudly served on the Cuyuna Range Medical Center Advisory Board from 2009-2018.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, son Dan (Carla) Stillwater, MN, Grandson Andrew, Stillwater, MN, Granddaughter Caitlyn (John) Chisago City, MN, Great Grandchildren Miles, Cienna, and Emmett. Brother Dennis Hale, Randall, MN, sisters Sarah Miller, Farmington, MN, Sandy Hopper, North St. Paul, MN, Judy Johnson (Jim), Crosby, MN and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceded in death by parents, Floyd and Agnes Hale, brothers-in-law, Myron Miller and Marshall Hopper and sister-in-law, Charlotte Hale.
So, we say goodbye to Floyd, loving husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend. He was the best story teller around, valued loyalty, honesty and integrity. He demonstrated perseverance through many challenges and loved to share his knowledge with others. Thank you, Floyd, we love you and miss you every day.
The family wishes to thank HealthPartners Hospice Care, Lakeview Hospital Oncology and Infusion Center for their exceptional care, compassion and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation. Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org)
A service will be held Friday, May 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 611 3rd Street, Stillwater, MN. Following mass, lunch will be served in Rose Hall at the Church. Inurnment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery at 700 6th St. N., Bayport, MN.
The family will accept visitors for one hour prior to funeral mass at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. -11 a.m., funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m.
To honor Floyd's wishes, following inurnment at St. Michael's Cemetery, we will gather at Bayport American Legion Post #491, 263 3rd St. N., Bayport MN where we will share memories. We invite you to join in the celebration of Floyd's life at the Legion.
