assed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Peggy (Steve) Sorensen; son, Bob (Debbie) Smith; grandchildren, Rob (Jeaney), Will, and Jana Sorensen and Amanda and Daniel Smith. Garld was born in Houston, MN and was a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools. He was a graduate of Houston High, Winona State and received his M.A. at the U of M. During his career he taught in a one room country school and also taught mathematics and Phy. Ed in high schools. He was an athlete in both high school and college and coached high school and junior college sports. His teaching was interrupted by World War II where he served in Patton?s Third Army and received a captain?s rank and Bronze Star for actions in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war Garld was principal at Lakefield, superintendent at Delavan, MN and assistant superintendent at Stillwater for 23 years. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 19, 2008 with visitation one hour prior to service at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 & Co Rd 5), Stillwater. Memorials welcomed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bayport.
