George William Streich, Age 92 of Houlton, WI, passed away March 17, 2024
George was born at home on April 6, 1931 to Frank and Hulda (Schuhmacher) Streich of Villard, Minnesota. Passed away March 17, 2024. Preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Barbara Eichten; sisters Eva Poppe and Ruth (Russell) Torfin; sister-in-laws, Grace (Lavern) Amundson; Marcella (Robert) Block, Rosemary (Charles) Pozzini, brother-in-law, Edward Eichten (Julia); nieces, Kathy (Amundson) Gilbert, Mary (Eichten) Jones, and Patty (Boerboom) Torfin; longtime companion, Joyce Allen.
George was the youngest of three children. He attended all 12 years of school in Villard and graduated with the Class of 1951. He was an outstanding player on the high school football team and was homecoming king. After high school, George enlisted in the Navy. Following his honorable discharge he started work at Maple Island Dairy, then Dairy Fresh and Land O' Lakes. He married Barbara Ann Eichten in Stillwater on February 19, 1955. George loved his home on the St. Croix River, and enjoyed hosting family and friends for picnics, bon fires, fishing and swimming. He spent many hours on his Gravely lawn mower grooming his acres of lawn. He had a super-sized garden and shared his “harvest” with friends and family. He enjoyed many travels with Barb to Germany, Arizona, Missouri, Arkansas, the Ozarks and especially Branson.
George is survived by; his niece, Nancy (Ron) Reichmann and nephew, Grant Torfin; 6 great-nephews and 1 great-niece; 15 great-great-nephews; nieces; several cousins; 15 nieces and nephews from the families of Amundson, Block, Eichten and Pozzini and their extended families; also the Selb Family, and many dear family friends.
Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, April 4, 2024, 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 423 South 5th Street, Stillwater with visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Interment St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
