Gerald "Gerry" Bjork
age 81 of Houlton, WI and Stillwater, MN passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 9th, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Lucille Bjork; brother Larry; and sister JoAnn Larson. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 29 years Sue; children of Gerry and Joyce; Todd(Amanda) with granddaughter Kasey, Jodi(Greg) Heichert, and Traci(Justin) Bjork-O'Brien with grandsons Jaeger, Braedy, Toryn, and Brekk; sister Shirley Eggleston; and nieces, nephews. Also important in Gerry's life were his extended family with Sue including step-children, step-grand-children, and step-great-grand-children.
Gerry was born and raised in the Almelund, MN area and graduated from Taylors Falls High School. He actively worked the family farm including learning butchering from his father Lawrence. He went on to trade school and became a Master Electrician working both at Andersen Windows and establishing his own business Bjork Electric. His work ethic was evident during his 37 years of service at Andersen Windows retiring in 1999 as the Maintenance Superintendent. He was very proud of his daughter Traci, son-in-law Justin, and grandsons Jaeger and Braedy for following in his footsteps at the Company he loved.
He was an avid deer hunter both bow and rifle earlier in his life and then later focused more on his love for fishing with Canadian fly-in trips and regular fishing with his wife Sue during their time living on Webb Lake and Big Bear Lake in the Danbury, WI area. He enjoyed showing his skill with construction by remodeling several cabins, building and remodeling his homes, priding himself that he rarely needed to hire out. He found great joy in living next door to his daughter Jodi as his favorite cocktail hour buddy and was regularly driving over on his John Deere tractor to visit with his son-in-law Greg who became his best friend. He was extremely active up until his untimely death with investments, home improvement projects, and a garden that produced a massive amount of tomatoes & cucumbers that were shared with neighbors and family. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan dedicated to watching games on TV including football, hockey, baseball, and basketball.
Gerry was known as the patriarch of the family; he had a very protective nature with his sisters Shirley and JoAnn, as well as his niece Shanon and nephew Kevin who he took under his wing when their father died young and remained an important part of their lives up until his death. His wisdom and knowledge was vast, he was called upon for advice and fix-it help from family on a regular basis. He was known as a strong, quiet, honor-bound man who was true to his word with high standards for himself and others around him which is demonstrated in his actions by including his ex-wife Joyce in all family gatherings at his home. His strong quiet nature is what ultimately contributed to his death, he was suffering quietly over the holidays with an untreated Strep infection that escalated to a brain abscess. The medical decisions that had to be made by his wife and daughters was heartbreaking. A strong link in the family chain was broken with his death and he will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd., on Saturday, January 27th with visitation at 10 am, service at 11 a.m. and lunch following.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
