Johnson, Gertrude M. Quinn Beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandma, friend. Died on January 18, 2008, at the age of 97, of complications after 2 operations for a broken hip and femur. Born in Portal, ND, she lived on a farm there and in the nearby town of Flaxton until age 13, then moved with her mother to southeastern MN and western WI. She graduated in 1933 from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, affiliated with the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN, then enjoyed a long career as an RN in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, WA, Nashville, TN, Missoula, MT, and Kodiak Island, AK. In 1947, she married Roy Waldemar Johnson at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, IA. She lived on West River Road in Minneapolis for a half-century; right before and after that, in apartments on East River Road in St. Paul. A longtime member of Minnehaha United Methodist Church, she taught Bible School, sang in a choir, traveled with the OK Gang, and worked tirelessly on projects such as the rummage sale and bazaar. She was preceded in death by her husband (in 1976), 1 older sister, 7 older brothers, and 1 younger sister. She is survived by daughter, Diane Rixmann; son, James Johnson; and daughter-in- law, Mary Knatterud, all of St. Paul; in-laws, Shirley and Alden Knatterud of Moorhead; sister-in-law, Berneice Quinn of New Brighton; 6 grandchildren, Emma Knatterud- Johnson, Ann Marie Rixmann, Nate Knatterud- Hubinger, and Josh Knatterud-Hubinger, all of St. Paul, Janis (Jeff) Diamond of St. Augustine, FL, and Bryce Johnson, until recently of Olympia, WA; 1 great-grandchild, Blake Diamond, also of St. Augustine; and many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. Special thanks to Highland Park's Rosewood and Highland Chateau. FUNERAL SERVICE 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 26, Minnehaha United Methodist Church, 3701 E. 50th St., South Minneapolis, with VISITATION beginning at the church at 11:00 AM. Memorials preferred to her church.
