Gertrude Schmidt

Passed away on August 26, 2018. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Rose; husband, Roger; son, Gary; and 9 siblings. Survived by sons, Rog (Maura), Dennis (Corrine); daughter, Karen Dinius (Nick); daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Schmidt; special niece, Debbie Blanchard; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Heroff; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Grandma Gertie's life was always deeply devoted to her family. She and Roger had been married 48 years when he died in October of 1991. For the previous 17 months she sat by his bedside every day as he lay in a coma, lovingly praying for him and a miracle that was not to be. It was during this time that Gert, Karen and Nick all began to live together. Grandma Gertie had a remarkable life with Karen and her family. Her capacity to love and to share that love was second to none. She had a great sense of humor & she loved baseball. She still enjoyed Daniel O'Donnell and would dance around the living room while she played his music. She enjoyed going to the cabin, to the casino & watching baseball, but more than anything she enjoyed time with family. Her greatest joy was hearing from her kids & especially from her grandkids when they would come visit. Her greatest gift was her wisdom, her stories of growing up in a poor household, but rich as could be in a million different ways; being taught unconditional love, strength, courage, and faith. And as her mother taught her, "Where there's a will there's a way" She will be forever known and missed for her love, her generosity of heart and her kindness. Funeral Service, 11AM, Thursday, August 30th at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 115 4th St. N., Stillwater. Visitation beginning at 9AM at church. Interment Union Cemetery.
