Gordon Brown, Jr

Gordon Furu Brown Jr(Brownie), age 72, of Maplewood, MN passed away on November 30, 2017 in the arms of his loving family at St. Joseph's hospital in St. Paul. He was the most devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle that you could ever ask for in life. For Gordon, family meant everything and seeing everyone together brought him the most joy.
Gordon was born November 14, 1945 in St Paul to Gordon and Helen (Bohlig) Brown. He graduated from St. Paul Academy in 1964 and then attended the University of MN where he was an active member of Chi Psi Fraternity. He fell in love and married Linda Hadd at Marine on St. Croix, MN on June 9, 1968. He was a teacher at Arenac Eastern School in Twining, Michigan for the next 17 years. He taught 7th and 8th grade math and geography and loved coaching basketball. He was a favorite teacher to many because of his dedication to students and good-natured humor. You could often hear his loud laughter traveling through the hallways. In 1985, he began a new career at Weeres Pontoon and companies in St Cloud, MN. It was a family run business and he very much enjoyed his time working with both his father and son.
In his retirement years, Gordon relocated to Maplewood and spent as much time as possible with his family. He was extremely proud of his children and grandsons. He enjoyed attending all his grandsons' events. His other interests included cheering on the Vikings, Patriots, and Twins, but most importantly he tried to never miss a U of MN Gopher's hockey game. He also enjoyed monitoring the stock market and a good game of cribbage or hearts.
Whenever the family was together or needed him, Gordon was there for us. He always loved to see us and told us so. He had perfected one of the longest Minnesota good-byes ever. He never wanted to see anyone leave and we wish that he didn't have to go now. He will be forever in our hearts.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda; sister, Sharon(Fred) Spilhaus; sister, Judy Lienau; brother, Martin(Kathy) Brown; daughter, Heather (Omar) Reece, daughter, Samantha Brown (Josh Bodie); son, Gordon (Nina) Brown, and six grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon F. Brown Sr and mother, Helen(Bohlig)Brown.
There will be a memorial service on Thursday December 7, 2017 at Bradshaw celebration of Life Center at 11:30am 4600 Greenhaven Drive, White Bear. Visitation is at 10:00am and the internment is at Oakland Cemetery.
