Retired Colonel USMC Age 90 of Boutwells A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday December 20, 2009 from 2-5 p.m. at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW Corner of Hwy 36 & Co Rd 5) Stillwater for Harry Alben Hadd who passed away December 13, 2009 at Boutwell's Gables. Harry was born November 26, 1919 to Alice Svihel and Joseph R. Hadd in St. Paul. He was a 1942 graduate of Macalester College. After serving 27 years, he retired as a colonel from the United States Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific in World War II and in Korea. Harry was commander of the 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines who landed in Lebanon in 1958. He served with NATO in Naples, Italy. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for developing a method for supplying front line troops which is used to this day. Harry was a resident of Marine on St. Croix for over 30 years and then moved to Boutwell's Landing in Oak Park Heights. During retirement, he traveled extensively and always enjoyed teaching his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harry is survived by Helen, his wife of 67 years; son, Harry A. Jr. (Kayleen) of Lancaster, Virginia; and daughter,Linda Brown (Gordon) of St. Cloud; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Audrey), Shoreview and Thomas (Ginny) of Bellingham, Washington and sister Jeanne Reher of Shoreview. He was preceded in death by his son, James Richard; brothers, Gordon, Joseph, Donald, John; and sister, Shirley Reher. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery in the spring.
