Preceded in death by his parents, H.O. and Christine Peterson, brother, Paul Iona) Peterson, sisters, Elvera (Bob) Conley, Evangeline Peterson and Clara (Bob) Morey. He is survived b y his wife of 66 years, Ruth; sons, Wayne Peterson of Ladysmith, WI, Stephen (Jackie) Peterson of Hudson, WI, Barry (Linda) Mossbarger of North Branch, Brian (Nancy) Mossbarger of Brooklyn Park, Bill (Lorraine) Tyra of Stillwater; daughter, Janet Kilkelly of Stillwater; sister, Mildred (Hollis) Sawyer of Stillwater; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Harry was a lifelong resident of Stillwater and graduated from Stillwater High School. In 1940 he married his wife, Ruth and he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by the Minnesota Department of Employment Security from 1938 to 1964, the Minnesota Association of Commerce and Industry from 1964 to `1979 and served as the Minnesota Commissioner of Labor and Industry from 1979 until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Stillwater City Council from 1979 through 1982 and the mayor of Stillwater from 1983 through 1986. He served as chairman of the United Way in 1988 and was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Stillwater Lions Club. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Stillwater. Memorial Service Wednesday 11 a.m. at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 813 Myrtle Street, Stillwater. Interment, Fairview Cemetery. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to First United Methodist Church, St. Croix Valley United Way or Donor?s choice.
