Helen J. Platzer (Wierzba)

Born in Weyerhaeuser, WI to John and Sophie Wierzba, Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 46 years, Paul Platzer; son, Robert Platzer; and all eight of her siblings.
She is survived by her son, Ronald (Roby), daughter-in-law, Terri; grandchildren, Katie(Craig Pluff), Jeremy, Kelly (Chance Glasford), Tom (Shannon) and Erin (Ryan Mattson), five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Helen received an award for never missing a day during her grade school years. She moved to St. Paul when she was 15, worked several jobs, and eventually packed olives for Grigg's Cooper Company. She was the St. Paul Winter Carnival Princess of the West Wind, and played on her company's softball team for many years. She was the manager of the Rice Street Dry Cleaners when she retired.

In their retirement, Helen and Paul were both avid bowlers, golfers, and enjoyed fishing together. Helen also played bocce ball and was on the Maplewood Moose Lodge's bocce ball team until she was 95. A disciplined exerciser she swam, walked, or used the stationary bike or treadmill five days a week until she was 99 years old.

As a member of St. Bernard's Altar and Rosary Society Helen served at many church diners and other events held in the church's dining hall. She was also a regular volunteer at the Vadnais Heights Food Shelf.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's memory can be made to St. Bernard's Parish.

A funeral Mass for Helen will be held on Wednesday, March 29 at 11 am at St. Bernard's with visitation an hour prior.
Interment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery
