Herbert B. Balfanz
Passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 26, 2004
while doing what he loved best, working in his wood
shop. Preceded in death in 1988 by wife, Margaret Jean
(Rowan) Balfanz. Herb is survived by children, Gerald
(Mildred) Balfanz of Stillwater, Mary (Charlie) Kuhtz
of Wales, WI, and Diane (Mike) Adams of Morrison, CO,
7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Born January 30, 1915 in the Dutchtown section of
Stillwater, MN to Emma and Ben Balfanz, the 4th of 5
children. In his early years he was employed in
nursery and tree surgeon work. While attending
Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis he met his wife
Jean. They settled in Stillwater where he began a
career in carpentry. He was a building contractor for
many years in the St. Croix valley area, constructing
homes, doing remodeling and light commercial work.
Herb always had an enthusiasm for building things,
whether it be a house, RV, boat, small toys,
furniture, or a backyard shed. He also enjoyed
reading and card playing, and had done much traveling
during his life.
He will best be remembered for his constant activity,
passion for wood and love of his family.
Funeral Service Friday, November 12, 2004 11:00 AM at
Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest
Blvd (NW corner of Hwy 36 and Cty Rd 5). Visitation 1
hour prior to service. Memorials preferred to St.
Paul's Lutheran Church of Stillwater.
