Holmen Cook, Ingeborg Christine
Age 100 of Oak Park Heights
Died December 22, 2011at her home at Boutwells Landing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Hugo and Ingeborg Thorene; brother, Hugo; sister, Katherine Paulson and son, Robert Holmen. Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Stanley) Hubbard; son, Dr. Douglas (Victoria) Holmen; daughter-in-law, Elaine Holmen (Paul) Magnuson; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Dr. Cook's daughters, Kathy (Donn) LaRue-Melby and Nancy (Sherman) Gardner, and 4grandchildren. She was born on August 4, 1911 in Virginia, MN, attended Hamline College and the McPhail School of Music. She was a longtime wife of Dr. Robert W. Holmen in St. Paul who died in 1967. In 1970, Ingeborg was again united in marriage to Douglas Bigsby Cook, a St. Paul dentist. The two of them lived in Sun City, AZ until his death in the mid 90's. She returned to the twin cities in 2001. She was known as Boya to some, Christine to others, most of all as Bama, to not only her grandchildren, but to friends and neighbors alike. As a "preachers kid", she was an able organist and choir director. As an accomplished pianist, she was well known on the concert circuit and has accompanied many twin city opera singers. She loved entertaining and possessed a remarkable ability to uplift all she met. Ingeborg loved her God and had a strong Christian faith which she witnessed well. Memorials preferred to Boutwells Landing. A Celebration of Ingeborg's Life will be 2 PM Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in the Gabels auditorium at Boutwells Landing, 13575 58th Street, Oak Park Heights.
