Wahlin, Irwin Maynard

Age 88

Of Stillwater, MN

Passed away peacefully June 19th, 2009 at the Greeley Health Care Center in Stillwater, MN. He was born March 10th, 1921 to Carl and Esther Wahlin of Goodridge, MN. Irwin was the 7th of 9 children. He loved farming with his father, but was drafted into the armed services toward the end of WWII. He worked as a mechanic over in Germany at the end of the war. Upon return to civilian life Irwin became a non-denominational Christian minister for about 7 years. He often said those years were some of the most precious of his life. He married Elaine A. Tollefson November 10,1953. They lived in St. Paul, MN until 1966 at which time they moved to a home they built on 10 acres in Afton, MN. They had 4 children: Mark, Joel, Cleon and Martha. Irwin loved farming and gardening on the 10acre hobby farm until building a home on 3 acres in Afton where he and Elaine lived until 2004. Irwin enjoyed working as a blocklayer and bricklayer for many years for Fleichhacker construction company, Leo Markfort construction company and later in life his son's construction company. He even designed and patented a line holder for masonry construction. He retired in his 70s. He enjoyed his family and friends so much. For many years he had the privilege of having church meetings in his home most Sunday mornings and lived a very spiritual life always putting God first. He loved to play the violin, sing and occasionally play the piano. He always had a beautiful vegetable garden until his early 80's.

Irwin is preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; parents, Carl and Esther Wahlin; sisters, Edith, Mildred and Ruth (who died when she was just little) and brothers, Walter and Alvin. Irwin is survived by 3 sisters, Vivian (Wahlin) Peters of Oregon, Ruth (Wahlin) Quick of Duluth, MN, and Fern (Wahlin) Boettcher of Stacy, MN, his 4 children: Mark (Laurie) Wahlin, Joel (Leslie) Wahlin, Cleon (Cheryl) Wahlin and Martha (Wahlin) Nodorft (Jeff).
