Passed away peacefully in the company of his family on January 17, 2019. He was 87 years old. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Arlene; children, Deb (Bob) Schwab, Jeff (Quinette) Cook; grandchildren, Matt (Jessica) Schwab, Allison (Parker) Johnson, Jason Schwab, Justin Cook, Taylor (Nick Roufs) Cook; great-grandchildren, Nora, Kayden, Lucas; brother, Joe (Brenda) Cook; sister, Katy (Jim) Coates; nieces, nephews and friends.

From a simple beginning on a farm in Indiana, Jack worked his way through 20 years of schooling. His passion for chemistry took hold early. He was valedictorian of his high school class, spent his undergraduate years at DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana, and earned his PhD in chemistry at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.

After 7 years at Phillips Petroleum Co., Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Jack spent 31 years as a research chemist at 3M, Maplewood, MN. He made significant contributions throughout his work career that led to many products we see and use every day, however Jack was most proud of his family and their accomplishments. After retirement, Jack and Arlene traveled to places around the US, Europe, Australia, and Central America, however he most treasured the time he spent with family and friends at the lake.

The family is very grateful to the staff at The Waters of Oakdale and Hospice of the Midwest for their loving care.

A Celebration of Jack's long life will be held at 11AM Wednesday, January 23 at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater, with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Union Cemetery, Maplewood. Memorials can be made to Dementia Society of America, Alzheimer's Association, or the charity of your choice.
