Age 70, of Stillwater, MN, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 17th.
Preceded in death by father, George. Jim is survived by loving wife of 45 years, Ann (née Van Erp); sons, Brant (Lydia), Ry (Tina) and Wes (Savannah); mother, Merle Kochsiek; brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Karen; sister, Karen Brauer; beloved grandchildren, Adrienna, Wylie, and Jace. He is also survived by Ann’s very large family of seven brothers and sisters, their spouses, and children.Jim held a degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota, and a master’s degree in Management of Technology from the Carlson School of Business. He was a civil/structural engineer for the State of Minnesota, Department of Transportation for 36 years, retiring five years ago to a lifestyle that suited him well, allowing him long walks with his dog, Kezi, golf, reading, and spending time with his family. Jim was an extremely talented athlete, good at every sport that he tried, with a fluid one-handed backhand in tennis. He seldom had to work hard to be competitive or excel in any area; he was intellectually gifted, a witty and lively conversationalist, and a talented, self-taught/discovered handyman.
Jim was a simple, complicated man: simple in his principles, style, and taste buds; complicated in his humor, endless quest for knowledge, and the manner in which he expressed love. He was extremely proud of the men his boys have become and loved them dearly, and he reveled in the grandchildren he and Ann were blessed to enjoy. His reward was to pass this life without pain and be at home with his Lord.
He will be truly missed by all who knew him. His family asks for your prayers and support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Oncology Department.
