Visitation for James G. Russell, longtime resident of Stillwater, will be Wednesday (TODAY) 4-8 P.M., at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 & Co Rd 5), Stillwater. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Family requests memorials to Warner Nature Center.





Jim passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2011, at age 87. He was born February 21, 1924, and grew up in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, graduating from Stillwater High School in 1942. He served with the 784th antiaircraft battalion in the European theater during World War II and worked as a civil engineer with the Minnesota Highway Department for over thirty years. In 1956 he and his wife, Viola, built a house on the North Hill in Stillwater, where they raised their two daughters, Mary and Dorothy. After his retirement Jim volunteered as a trail-walker at Warner Nature Center for many years.





He is survived by his wife, Viola, daughters Mary Russell of St. Paul and Dorothy (Peder) Knudsen of Fovling, Denmark, three granddaughters, Helena, Anna, and Elisa Knudsen, sister Donna Mae Conroy, special cousin Carol (Walter) Griffin, and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Marion Russell. Special thanks to friend Terri Ann Schaubschlager and the staff at River Valley Home Health Care.
