Haemig, Jean Louise Hafermann. Born March 8, 1926 in Minneapolis and died May 26, 2020
in St. Paul. She was the daughter of Walter G. Hafermann and Clatie (Hoover) Hafermann and
the oldest of four sisters. She grew up in south Minneapolis, attending Hiawatha Elementary
school and Sanford Junior High school. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1943 and
entered Macalester College that fall. At Macalester she made many lifelong friends and worked
toward her goal of being a social worker. She graduated from Macalester in 1947 and worked
as a social worker for Campfire Girls and for Big Sisters. On August 10, 1946 she married
Ernest Albert Haemig at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Minneapolis. They had three children,
Mark, Paul, and Mary Jane, whom they raised at their home in south Minneapolis. Jean valued
being a homemaker and being involved with her childrens’ activities. She was an expert
seamstress and enjoyed playing the piano. In later years Jean worked part time for the Census
and also was involved in neighborhood organizations. In 1999 she and Ernie moved to
Becketwood Senior Cooperative where they enjoyed making new friends and participating in
community life. Jean was predeceased by her parents, her three sisters, her grandson Kirk, and
her husband Ernest. She is survived by her children, Mark (Jan) of Cut Bank, Montana, Paul of
Sweden, and Mary Jane of St. Paul, Minnesota, as well as grandsons Karl (Heather) and Kyle
(Estelle), great-granddaughters Natalie and Evelyn, and many nieces and nephews. Services
were held. Memorials are suggested to Lutheran World Relief.
