A memorial service for Jerry B. Mahoney, age 74, of Stillwater, will be held Saturday, October 24, 2009, 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Family will receive friends following the service.
Jerry B. Mahoney, 74 of Stillwater passed away peacefully on October 6, 2009.
Jerry was born in LeRoy, MN on August 2, 1935 and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1953. Upon graduation, Jerry enlisted in the US Army and served in the Signal Corp, which gave him the opportunity to travel to nearly every country in Europe during his 3 years stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.
After the Service, Jerry moved to Minneapolis where he met Lois Kracht of Peterson, Iowa. They married on October 7th, 1961. In 1968 Jerry and Lois moved their young family to Stillwater, where Jerry had taken an accounting job with Hooley's Supermarket. Soon thereafter, Jerry started his own accounting and tax service, and he was still practicing as an independent accountant when he died.
During his 41 years in Stillwater, Jerry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, served on the Stillwater City Council, and was also active in many community organizations, such as Rotary, Jaycees, the Chamber of Commerce, and the St. Croix Valley Athletic Association.
An avid sports fan, Jerry was a staunch supporter of youth and prep sports throughout his life. He attended hundreds of his children's competitions and continued to attend Stillwater Pony events long after his children graduated, missing only 2 Pony football games over the last 30 years.
Jerry appreciated and cherished all of the people in his daily life... his family, long-time friends, clients, the staff of restaurants he frequented, and everyone else along his path. Despite ailing health, Jerry approached every day with optimism and found reason to smile.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Lois (Kracht) Mahoney, his parents Arthur and Edna (Sutherland) Mahoney, his sisters Barbara Mahoney, Delores Ness and Jean Richmond, and his brothers Arlin, Donald, Harris, Ken, Walt, Robert, Jim, Gordon, and Glenn Mahoney. Jerry is survived by his sister Mary VanDerHeyden of Rochester, MN, his daughter Susan of Berkeley, CA, his son and daughter-in-law Mike and Jane of Menomonie, WI, and his three treasured grandchildren Seth, Anna, and Luke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are welcome to the St. Croix Valley Athletic Association or the First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater.
