Age 78, of North Oaks, formerly of White Bear Lake, died peacefully February 19, 2018. Preceded in death by parents, Fisk and Esther Peterson and infant brother, Charles. She will be sadly missed by husband of 51 years, Brian; children, Kristin (Brian) Burge, Kari Johnson, David (Sara) Johnson and Joel Johnson; grandchildren, Tyler, Ava, Caroline, Jackson and Zachary; sisters, Carol Peterson and Mary (Nabil Elias) Peterson; nephew, Alex Elias and niece, Mona Taylor.

Joanie led a creative life, she enjoyed sewing, china painting, and in 1993 discovered her true calling, quilting, and she created many beautiful quilts that she gave to friends and family. Other pastimes included playing bridge with friends, card and board games with her family, music, and watching nearly any kind of sporting event. Her family, friends, and faith were the most important pillars of her life. She was always there for those she loved. Her example of kindness and generosity will be remembered and exemplified by all who knew her. Joanie's favorite role was that of being a grandmother. She loved her five grandchildren with all her heart and soul. She will be missed.

A celebration of Joanie's life will be Monday, February 26, 2018, 12:00 P.M. at ST ANDREW'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 900 Stillwater Road, Mahtomedi with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
