John David Barry, age 67, of St. Paul, MN, passed away on October 19, 2024.
Following his graduation from Cretin High School, John proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country with distinction. Stationed in Fargo, North Dakota, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. After his military service, John pursued his passion for technology, earning two degrees from Northeast Electronics Institute (NEI), first in the early 1980s, and then again in 2003, when he returned to enhance his skills in computing.
John had many interests. His love for movies and music was easy to see. He amassed an impressive collection over the years. He was also an exceptional roller skater, known for his skills on wheels. A devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings, John remained a loyal supporter through every season, even when the Vikings made it hard to be a fan. His stubbornness, sharp sense of humor, and competitive spirit were trademarks of his personality, especially growing up in a large family with nine siblings, where quick wit was a survival skill. John had 4 children of his own. He was proud of his children and spoke about them often.
John's family and friends will remember him for his unwavering spirit and the love he had for those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Tipsy Steer / High Pines Brewery in Roseville, MN, on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at 12:00 PM. This casual gathering will include food, beverages, and, of course, the Vikings game. Family and friends are invited to come by for a little or stay for the game in honor of John.
An Interment Ceremony will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Monday, November 18, 2024. The ceremony will be brief and restricted to 15 minutes. Please speak to family members if you wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Veterans Organization of your choice in honor of John's military service.
John's legacy of humor and loyalty will live on in the memories of those who knew him.
