John W.Brower,
age 51, of Shoreview, MN
died suddenly at home.
He is preceded in death by his father, Monte Brower. Survived by his mother, Barbara K. Brower of Grand Rapids; sister, Mary B. Vergin of Grand Rapids; brother, David (Natalie) Brower of Bozeman, MT; nephew, Michael (Stephanie) Vergin and their children, Ellen & Molly; niece, Susan (Scott) Racine and their children, Mitchal & Megan.
John was a graduate of Cloquet High School, University of Minnesota ? Duluth, and University of New York. On his return from New York, John volunteered for many years at KFAI Fresh Air Radio in Minneapolis, where he produced and hosted "Poeme Electronique", a modern music program praised for its knowledgeable and in-depth presentation of contemporary, classical music and jazz. His interest in other cultures led John to perform in the Schubert Club Gamelan Ensemble. Later he was a co-founder of IPAAM (Indonesian Performing Arts Association of Minnesota) where he served variously as Executive Director, Development Director and in many other capacities. He volunteered at Meals on Wheels, Feline Rescue, In the Heart of the Beast Puppet & Mask Theatre, & the Twin Cities Book Festival. He worked at Fair Isaac for 15 years.
John was known for his wry humor, and for his love and tremendous knowledge of music, film, books, and visual and performing arts. He also enjoyed travel to China, London, New York City and many other places to experience those cultures firsthand and to attend arts-related events. He built a strong and loyal group of friends, many of whom enjoyed his company over the years.
Memorial services will be arranged at a later date.
