John Robley Evans was born July 5, 1931, in Elma, Iowa, to Robley and Kathryn (Casey) Evans. He had two younger sisters, Jill and Kate. His family lived on a farm until John (known as "Jack" by family) was seven, then moved to Waterloo, IA, where Robley worked for John Deere.
John was in the U.S. Navy (1950-1954) in Japan during the Korean Conflict. John and Rebecca "Becky" (Christenson) married in September 1955. Jeffrey was born in 1957 in Waterloo. They moved to the Twin Cities in 1962. Anne was adopted in 1964.
John was a construction electrician. In MN, the Evanses lived in Brooklyn Park, Loretto, Corcoran and Otsego (2002-2013). Becky died January 1, 2007, and John moved to Nine Mile Creek Senior Living in Bloomington in October 2013.
John had congestive heart failure but was grateful for strength to attend Sunday home fellowship meetings until two days before death. In his testimonies, he often said he was thankful for the changes in his life after he and Becky dedicated their lives to Jesus (in 1979), and he wanted to keep the vows he had made until the end of life.
Surviving are: son Jeffrey (Julie) Evans, daughter Anne Evans; Anne's daughters, Cassandra (Joseph) Gabriel and Rochel Mengelkoch; Jeff and Julie's son, David Accola; great-grandchildren Dynisty Gabriel and Tayla Howard; and sisters Mary Kathryn "Kate" McNally of Des Moines and Julia "Jill" Evans of Florida.
