John A. Fisher, age 82 of Mendota Heights
passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Eleanor. He will be deeply missed by those who survive him: his wife of 57 years, Janice; daughters, Kimber (Erik) Munson, Kelly (Greg) Sofio; grandchildren, Matthew, Sophie, Christina, Nicholas, Martha; siblings, Sharon (Don) Wright, Robert Fisher; many nieces, nephews and friends. John grew up in the Como Park neighborhood and graduated from Murray High School and the University of Minnesota. He served for six years in the Army National Guard and Reserves. He was passionate about history, his lawn, and his hometown of St. Paul that he promoted through his work with the St. Paul Convention & Visitors Bureau. Active with St. Paul Jaycees, and also the Winter Carnival for over 30 years, John was a Vulcan in 1972 and King Boreas in 1985. He also served in executive management and was a valued and respected mentor to other members of the Winter Carnival family. A lifelong love of Lionel Trains led him to the Lionel Collectors Club of America, of which he later became president. John had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and loved to play cards. Known for holiday lighting that was rivaled only by Clark Griswold, John loved, most of all, gathering with family and friends for celebration. One in his honor will be on Sunday, October 1 from 12-3pm at Mancini's Char House. Thank you to Lyngblomsten for the excellent care provided to John. Memorials to Como Friends, Lyngblomsten or donor’s choice.
