John Paul Koonce

November 22, 1942 – June 24, 2023, of Somerset, WI, died peacefully at home and is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Also known as the “Wonder in Wonderful” John had the best ingredients. Not only was he smart and inquisitive, full of great humor (along with a healthy dose of mischief!), he was also thoughtful, sensitive and compassionate. He loved living life to the fullest with his family and friends, doing genealogy, making over 60,000 crosses, being in nature at home, and living in the beautiful St. Croix River Valley. He was a friend of Bill W. and celebrated 40 years of sobriety, helping many others on their journey. He served in the U.S. Navy, was an active member of the Typographical Union and worked in the printing industry and retired Printer at the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Preceded in death by his father, Robert A.; mother, Ann Sedor; stepmother, Thelma Morrissey; brothers, Leonard, Wm Edward, James A.; and great-granddaughter, Mya Lee.

Survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Schroeder; son, Craig (Amy); daughter, Leah (Hugh Fleming); grandchildren, Chantelle (Shane), John (Sarah), Chad (Kim), Tyler (Cristina) and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Collin, Cooper, Cameron, Kieran, Sherri, Aberdeen; siblings, Robert J., Lee (Jane), Donald (Pat), Carol Loehr, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.  

A Celebration of Life will be at 11 am on July 21, 2023 at The Recovery Church, 253 State St. St. Paul, with visitation beginning one hour before. The event will be broadcasted live at https://www.youtube.com/@recoveryvideo6216 

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be preferred.
