John Lawson, lifelong resident of Stillwater, passed away on July 30, 2008, two days shy of his eighty-eighth birthday. Born August 1, 1920, he was a former employee of Northern Pacific Railroad, the State of Minnesota, and the City of Stillwater. During his thirty-three year career with the city, he served as Fire Chief and Building Inspector, until his retirement in 1978.
Being a veteran of the Second World War, he left the city with the Stillwater National Guard in 1941 and served in the European Theatre. John received the Bronze Star during the African campaign, ad he was a nearly sixty year member of the Stillwater VFW.
Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, and his daughter, Sandra; as well as his brother, George; and his parents, George and Jennie Lawson. He is survived by his companion of thirty-six years, Shirley Montbriand; as well as his granddaughter, Lisa Dau; and grandson, Frank Dau.
Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Animal Humane Society.
