Weyrens, Jack
Passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on May 8, 2018. Born January 27, 1935 in St. Cloud, the sixth of eight children of Julia Frank and Peter Weyrens. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Kate Kugler; sister, Barbara Sura; brother, James (Peg); children MaryKate (David Welch); John (Annamarie O'Neill); David (Sasha Hodges); granddaughters Morgan, Olive, Piper, Francesca, Luciana; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Jack grew up and went to school in Grand Rapids, before attending Itasca Junior College, St. John's University and William Mitchell College of Law (J.D. 1964). Jack served in the U.S. Army in Germany 1957-60. Following marriage to Kate in 1965, Jack practiced law in Dawson, MN until he was elected as a County Court Judge in 1972. In 1982 he was appointed District Court Judge and served in that position until his retirement in 2000. Jack treated all whom he encountered through his profession and in life with respect and dignity, and his judicial philosophy was marked by compassion. Jack served as Chief Judge of the 8th Judicial District. He was the First Chair of Countryside Council in SW MN, and in 1986 served as Chair of the MN Conference of Chief Judges. He was instrumental in the creation and establishment of the State Court administration. Devoted to his community and his church throughout his life, Jack served in many capacities in each place he lived. He spent his life doing what he believed in, helping others. Jack was a student of history who loved reading (especially about presidents). He loved driving and tinkering with old cars, singing and playing the organ, working with wood, traveling, camping in the woods, and most of all spending time with his family. Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 AM, Monday, May 14, at Our Lady of the Presentation Chapel, 1884 Randolph Avenue, St. Paul, MN with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM, and burial at Ft.
