Born on May 14, 1936, Joe was the first-born son to Dorothy Dugan Doerrer and Albert Joseph Doerrer. He was reared and educated in Saint Paul, MN attending the Nativity Elementary School and was a graduate of Cretin High School, Class of 1954.

He was a mentor to many a rising star in the insurance industry and his daughter, Anne and two grandchildren continue his legacy for Farmers Insurance Group.
Perhaps Joe's greatest contribution was his love and devotion to his family and his dry sense of humor. He enjoyed a good joke and was often the teller of lame ones himself.
