Joe passed away at the age of 77 at Our Lady of Peace Hospice care facility on April 27, 2013 after a three and a half year battle with lung cancer. He was born on July 24, 1935 to Adeline (Schons) and Alfred Nelsen in Springfield MN. He was raised on the family farm just outside of Clements MN where he would work summers at the Delmonte canning plant in Sleepy Eye. After graduating from Springfield High School Joe enlisted into the United States Army where he served for 2 years. He gained employment as a truck driver for Gopher News Magazine firm in Mpls. where he worked for 42years until his retirement.
Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, caring for his yard and vehicles and visiting with family and friends in his garage.
Joe is survived by his wife Rose, son Daniel and wife Mary of Shakopee MN, daughter Peggy and husband Tom of Clements MN, grandchildren Christopher wife Nicole, Ashley, Whitney, Taylor and great grand child Gage, one sister and four brothers.
He was preceded in death by is parents and a sister.
Service Wednesday, May 1 at 7 PM at BRADSHAW (McDivitt-Hauge), 3131 Minnehaha Ave. S., with visitation beginning at 4 PM. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
