Judith Jane Hunter Haroldson
Age 82, of Woodbury, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2021. Preceded in death by parents, Jane and Gordon Hunter; and infant sister, Leslie. She will be sadly missed by loving husband of 57 years, Sam; children, David (Doreen); Peg (Chris) Benson; grandchildren, Megan, Anna and Stanley Haroldson, Sam, Nate and Matt Benson; sisters, Jerry King and Marilou Spash; one niece and 4 nephews; other family and friends.
Judy was born in Rockford, Il., on September 13, 1938. Her family moved to Freeport, Il., when Judy was 12. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1956 and then attended the University of Washington. She graduated from Washington in 1960 and then moved to the Twin Cities area, where she attended the University of Minnesota to earn her teaching license. It was at the U of M that she met the love of her life, Sam, and they were married in 1963. Judy taught elementary school in the Mounds View School District until the birth of their son, David, in 1967. Their daughter, Peggy, was born in 1969. Judy then focused her teaching efforts on her own kids, as she loved to incorporate learning in all areas of their play. She was also very involved with her Homemakers Club, the League of Women Voters, volunteering at school, and a variety of local political and civic endeavors. Judy loved the vacations she and Sam took with their kids, road trips with the family camper and time spent camping with their closest family friends. Judy was truly happiest, however, spending time with family and friends at the family lake place on Long Lake in Wisconsin. Judy also was an avid reader and knitter. From baby blankets to Barbie clothes to sweaters and even socks, most of her family has been the fortunate recipient of one of her hand-knit treasures. One of the greatest joys in Judy’s life was her six grandkids. She jumped at the chance to babysit, and she loved nothing more than to play games with them, read to them, rock them to sleep, teach them math, etc. As her memory failed her in her later years, any interaction with her grandkids, or the chance to watch them play their sports or their instruments, brightened her day.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be Thursday, July 22, 2021, 11:00 A.M. at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard, Stillwater with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service. Private interment Union Cemetery, Maplewood, MN.
