Judith McDonald (Ballard), North Oaks, MN. April 24, 2003, following a heart attack. Born Minneapolis, MN. Preced in death by parents Glenn F and Mildred Thompson Ballard and her sister Laurel Ballard Hall. Judy is survived by her husband Malcollm W and their children, Malcolm Scott with wife Betty and daughter Mackenzie, of Reston VA, Margaret Alice and Philip Brian both of North Oaks, MN, and Phil's daughter Camile McDonald, with siblings Natalie & Alex and mother Amanda (Mrs. Scott) Hetu of Trenton, IL. Also survived by sister Laurette (Mrs. James) Anderson of Bremerton WA; sister-in-law Helen McDonald of Saugerties, NY; nieces Jodi Wheatley, Laurie Anderson and Joy Richards, newphew Gary Pavek and many cousins. Judy excelled as a graceful figure skater and judge. During summers in college she worked and skated in shows at Sun Valley. Her true passion was travel; the enjoyment of sights and sounds in Europe, Asia and Africa. She loved skiing Colorado's slopes, playing tennis in Arizona, and riding a camel in Egypt and elephants in Thailand. Judy had a life-long interest in education. She graduated from Washburn High School, Wellesley College, Appalachian State University and William Mitchell College of Law. She was chosen in 1986 as the Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy Fellow at the University of Virginia. Judy was a dedicated public servant in management positions with the State of Minnesota Law Enforcement Assistance Administration, The Ramsey County Criminal Justice Advisory Committee, Metropolitan State University, and Minneapolis Community College. Most recently as a member of the board of People Incorporated she worked to improve care for the mentally ill. Above all Judy valued her friends and family as her most precious gifts. There will be a memorial service. Thursday, May 1st at 4 PM at St. John the Evangelist Episcolpal Church, Portland at Kent in St. Paul.
