June Elaine Dalquist, 93, was reunited with her beloved husband, Gerry, on Thursday June 17, 2021, just 2 days before their 72nd wedding anniversary. Gerry passed a year ago, just a week after their 71st anniversary.
June had a peaceful final day, making her own decisions until the end, surrounded and supported by family.
Growing up as a farmer’s daughter outside of Little Falls, she excelled in school, played piano for multiple churches and choirs, married her high school sweetheart, and graduated with honors and a nursing degree from Hamline University. Her career plans changed rapidly after her first child was born, followed soon by 4 more - including precious Alan who died shortly after his birth. When the kids were grown and more independent, she went back to work part time at St. John’s Hospital.
June’s life revolved around family and faith to the end. She was consistently kind and considerate, never hesitating to model her Christian values through her behavior. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly and maintained a lifelong policy of keeping the door open for times of need.
Along with her husband, June devoted many years of service to the church, crisscrossing the country to join in the fellowship of Mariner work camps and a multitude of opportunities seeking skilled dedicated volunteer service. They also made the most out of regularly visiting children and family and friends around the world. Primary beneficiaries of the best Mom ever include her children, Steven (Shirley), Joy (Walt), Scot (Lynn) and Dean (Desiree); grandchildren, Amanda (Tyler), Sam (Katie), William, Kirsten, Austen, and Keaton; and two great-grandchildren, Rune and Mary. Also surviving June is her cousin, Ruth, who was like a sister. In addition to Gerry and Alan, loved ones she outlived include her parents, Simon and Selma Swanson, and her cousin, Louise.
A memorial service to celebrate the lives of both June and Gerry will take place at 11:00AM on August 27th at First Presbyterian Church, 6201 N Osgood Ave, Stillwater, MN 55082, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Interment at Randall Cemetery at noon on August 28th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in June’s name to the Church or to Presbyterian Homes Foundation.
