June Forstrom

June Rochelle Forstrom died Friday, June 9th at the age of 90.  She is survived by her husband Keith, daughter Dawn, son-in-law Alvin Saks, grandson Dylan Saks and his wife Hattie Ball, and granddaughter Emma Saks.  She was preceded in death by her son Mark.

June, a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, graduated from Wilson High School as valedictorian in 1950.  She worked as an editor and accountant in a variety of contexts in Riverfalls, WI, Pueblo, CO, and Fairmont, MN before settling in Boulder, Colorado for over 50 years.  In 1962, June organized the Adoptive Mothers Club in Boulder and became its first president, a social and educational support group she valued deeply.  Before retiring in 1998, June was Executive Secretary and Research Grants Administrator for the Geological Society of America for 25 years.  June and Keith spent their senior years enjoying road trips, cruises, and dancing together.  They were blessed to celebrate 71 years of marriage.

The Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., July 13, 2023 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 900 Stillwater Road in Mahtomedi, MN. The service will be streamed and available through St. Andrews website. Memorials can be donated to the “gift in memory” to The Geological Society of America in Boulder, Colorado and designated toward scholarships for women in science.
