Age 73 of Grant, formerly of Willernie
Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by family praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet on December 2, 2024.
June had a very adventurous childhood growing up in Willernie. She graduated from Mahtomedi High School in 1969.
In 1971, June married Marvin and moved to Grant. They raised 4 beautiful children. After being a full time mom, she reentered the workforce at St. Paul College, where she retired as Executive Assistant to the President.
Throughout her children's upbringing, June was very active and involved. She served on St. Jude of the Lake School and Parish councils, coached sports, and volunteered for youth outings and retreats.
June's greatest joys were traveling and camping with Marvin and the family. They made many great memories with trips both near and far. The family's annual 3-week road-trips produced many beautiful memories. In retirement, June and Marvin were able to continue their travels, with June preferring the peaceful back-road routes to any destination. Highlights of their travels include a 3-month road trip to Alaska and trips overseas to the Holy Land, Ireland, and Central Europe. They were blessed to be able to travel with friends and family.
The annual camping trip to Wild River State Park over MEA break has been a tradition that June and Marvin began when their children were young and the grandkids have continued. Highlights of these weekends are hiking, biking, campfires, Halloween decorating, and trick-or-treating with the grandkids (with Grandma as the lead minion this year!).
When not traveling, June enjoyed walking, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. But mostly she enjoyed the summers with their pool and grandkids visiting to swim. Grandma could out-swim anyone, treading water and floating for hours.
June was a woman of very strong Catholic Faith. She was the pillar of the Faith for her family. She said her Rosary every morning and was always working her way through a book about faith or spirituality. June loved our Mother Mary and had a strong devotion to Jesus and His Divine Mercy. She cherished her prayer group and the friendships she built through that faith family. She continued her service to the church and was a member of the choir for most of her adult life.
June was a patriot who loved her country, prayed for it, and wanted her children and grandchildren to inherit a country of peace and prosperity. She cherished life and was a vocal and prayerful advocate of protecting all. June has passed this strong voice and boldness in debating to her children and grandchildren.
June's husband Marvin and the children would like to thank all of the friends and family who have helped us in this past whirlwind of a few weeks. Though way to short, we were certainly blessed to be able to have this time with her. June's last week included beautiful memories of Thanksgiving, visiting with friends and family, and the annual grandchildren's Christmas decorating just a couple of days before she passed. A most cherished memory is grandma June reading her childhood book The Shiniest Star to her grandchildren. Most of all, we thank our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother for all of the beautiful memories she created for us and for her witness to the grace of final perseverance and a happy death.
May June's soul, and the souls of all of the faithful departed, rest in peace, and may she see the face of God! Amen.
June is preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Leonard Carlson; and brother, Joe (Claudette) Munson.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Marvin; children, Melissa (Jim), Kim (Jamie), Liz (Jason), and Al (Janine); 13 grandchildren, Teri, Josie, Molly, Grace, Ali, Joe, Elli, Eddie, Mary, Joe, Liesel, Annamae, and Jase; and siblings, Elaine and Jim (Sheila).
