Kai Lee JuVette (Karee Leigh JuVette), an avid sports fan, intellectual, and family individual, was born on March 2, 1991 in Racine, WI and died unexpectedly on July 28, 2019. No matter the day or time, Kai could be found exploring nature, dribbling the soccer ball, or shooting hoops in the driveway. He spent countless hours with his dog, Blair, whom he loved with all his heart. He was an adventurous young man, who loved taking road trips with his parents, visiting new places with his sister and friends, or spending quality time at the cabin with his relatives.
Kai had a passion for learning and graduated from Mounds Park Academy in 2009. He then embarked on his college journey at Stanford University, where he majored in Urban Studies and spent his free time playing sand volleyball with friends. After graduation, Kai remained in California and went on to work at Oracle for several years, where he pushed himself to learn new skills, became a LGBTQ advocate, and met several long-lasting friends. In late 2017, Kai moved back to Minnesota, where he was able to spend his last year and a half surrounded by his family. He was planning to attend graduate school at Northwestern Health Sciences University in September to study Chinese Medicine.
Kai was a social change activist who believed in equality and respect for all. He was dedicated to educating people on the LGBTQ community and helped bring awareness and understanding to all. As a spiritual person, Kai believed in the power of love over hate and divisiveness, and spread the message of unity whenever he was able.
Kai is survived by his parents, Miriam and Jack JuVette, his sister, Kelsey, his dog Blair, and several relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 14 at 2:00pm at White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church (328 Maple Street, Mahtomedi, MN, 55115).
The family has established a memorial fund to ensure Kai’s beliefs and values live on. The family asks that all memorials be made out to the Kai Lee JuVette Advocacy Fund. Memorials can be directed to the JuVette family or can be sent to the following:
