Karen Benson Lampi, age 73, of Bayport, Minnesota died peacefully on Sept. 1, 2016.
Karen was a loving wife, mom and grandma. She was also 100% Norwegian, a journalist, and a champion of dogs. Karen worked as communications coordinator for district 834 and continued writing after retiring. She wrote a popular column in the Stillwater Gazette and Stillwater Courier. Karen was a dedicated community volunteer; she served on the Board of Community Volunteer Service, Bayport Library and Library foundation, as well as, many years of service to the 834 distinguished alumni, 834 Partnership Plan, Croixdale and the Stillwater Veterans Memorial.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene; parents, Kermit and Margaret (Maanum) Benson; and grandson Matthew.
Karen is survived by her treasured companion, Millie; daughters; Gretchen Acker (Charlie Smith), Kara (Brad) Swenson, Stephanie Thompson (Dave Beron), Jennifer (Matt) MacDonald; grandchildren; Charlie and Sam Acker, Blake and Margaret Swenson, Shelby, Alexander and Josephine MacDonald; brothers, Neil (Diane) Benson, Jeff (Amy) Benson; nieces, Laura, Mara, Delaney; nephews, Josh and Derrick; dear friends, Cynthia Meyer, Kathy and Tim MacDonald; and countless other friends and family. The family gives a special thanks to Lakeview Hospice.
Funeral service will be held at 5 PM on Wednesday Sept. 7, 2016 at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.
