Kathryn Coy

Kathryn Theodora “Kitty” Loreen Coy died on January 2, 2021 at the Boutwell’s Landing Retirement home in Oak Park Heights, MN. She was born in Rockford, Illinois on April 28, 1929, the youngest child of Rev. Albert and Laura (Johnson) Loreen. Rev. Loreen was pastor of First Lutheran Church of Rockford. Kitty graduated from East Rockford High School in June 1947. She left Rockford before 1966 and was employed in Kansas City, Kansas as an early computer operator in a local bank. She met her husband, John William Coy in Kansas City and they were married in Rockford on November 25, 1971. Kitty and John lived in the Kansas City area for many years until John died on August 1, 2017. Kitty then moved to be near family in Minnesota.

Kitty’s interests included gardening, traveling in a motor home with John and her brother Albert Loreen, Jr. and his wife Nada; watching the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs’ televised games as a loyal fan; attending railroad engineer events with John, who drove trains for the Santa Fe Railroad; shopping for and maintaining their lovely homes in Leawood, Overland Park and then Shawnee, Kansas. Kitty and John were members of Faith Lutheran Church in Prairie Village, Kansas, where Kitty was active with the women’s organizations. Kitty was known by her extended family as an excellent cook and gracious hostess.

She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings, Merida Lundstrom, Albert Loreen, Jr., Ruth Darrah, Genevieve Bernard, Paul and Grace Loreen; and her husband John. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and their families. Her remains will be interred with those of her husband John at the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, Kansas.
