Kenneth Faust Sr.

d. November 14, 2019

Glenwood, MN

Kenneth R. Faust, Sr. age 74, of Glenwood, and formerly of Saint Paul, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at Glacial Ridge Hospital.

Kenneth Ronald Faust was born on January 23, 1945 in Saint Paul, Minnesota to William and Loretta (Meyer) Faust. He was raised in Saint Paul, along with his brother, James and sister, Linda. Ken attended St. Jerome’s Elementary School and Hill-Murray High School before graduating from Johnson High School with the Class of 1963. After graduation, Ken enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Columbia, S.C. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Saint Paul and continued to serve in the Army National Guard for an additional 6 years. During this time Ken met and married Cynthia “Tootie” Squire. He worked for an electric company in Saint Paul where they made their home before moving to Woodbury. Ken and Tootie were blessed with two sons, Kenneth, Jr. and Michael. Ken and Tootie eventually divorced, but remained friends and were dedicated parents to their sons.

In 1975, Ken was accepted into the Saint Paul Police Academy. Upon his completion of the program that September, he was hired by the Saint Paul Police Department, where he served for 22 years before his retirement in January of 1997. During his years on the force, he met fellow police officer, Lynne (Beardsley) Sorensen. They married on June 25, 1986 and made their home in Eagan and later, Inver Grove Heights. After their retirement, Ken and Lynne moved to Detroit Lakes, where they purchased a lake home. After 7 years up north, they felt like they’d like to be closer to their children and so they relocated to Lake Scandi near Glenwood, where they have since resided. They also enjoyed escaping the harsh Minnesota winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona, where they had a winter home.

Ken was a member of the American Legion and the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and golf. He had a passion for Labrador Retrievers and was a devoted dog owner. He was a best friend to his wife, Lynne, and a loving father, step-father, and grandfather. His family will miss his snarky sense of humor and quick wit, as well and his always reliable guidance and support.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Lynne Sorensen-Faust of Glenwood; two sons, Kenneth (Amy) Faust, Jr. of Woodbury, MN, and Michael (Kristie) Faust of New Richmond, WI; Lynne's four children, Kristine Sorensen, Scott (Vickie) Sorensen, David (Rochelle) Sorensen, and Jill (Chad) Langhorst; grandchildren, Justin, Madalyn, Abby, Emilie, Derek, Alexandra, Jacob, Kaylie, Krysta, Lucas, Ally, Evan; great-grandchildren, Oliver, Liam, Liam, Joshua; brother, James (Carol Jean) Faust of New Brighton; sister, Linda (Michael) Weiszel of Minneapolis; his law enforcement partner and close friend, Dan Cermak of White Bear Lake; his Labrador retriever, Kasey; and many fellow law enforcement officers from the St. Paul police department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Loretta.

May Ken’s memory be blessed.
