Kenneth Moore

Kenneth Fitzgerald Moore, famously known as “Peter”, was born to Melinda Frances (Lisenby) Moore and Rev. Elihu Moore Sr. on December 5th, 1960, in St. Paul, MN. The sixth of eight children, Kenneth grew up and was well known in the central neighborhood where he lived, worshiped, and worked most of his life before moving to Minneapolis.

His signature smile, and ear catching laugh defined his personality and has a story of its own. The nickname “Peter” was given to him as a young child by his oldest sibling, Mary, because he would laugh so hard every time she sang him the peter rabbit song. That was the beginning of laughter that would go on to be heard at every family gathering, and barbecue, as Peter loved to celebrate. He was upbeat, and brought out the best in people.

Peter graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1978, the same year he got his first car, a canary yellow, two-toned 1974 El Dorado which captured a lot of attention. He had the gift of making friends easy, and much like his car, was full of personality, stood out in the crowd, and was often the talk of the town. He was charismatic, loved to entertain, have a good time, and show off his dance moves mostly on top of furniture as well as on the dance floor. He was the life of the party.

A dedicated worker, and master of many skills, Peter earned his carpentry and boiler’s license at Job Corp in 1981, before going on to work for The Wilder Foundation for a number of years. He had a great attention to detail, was squeaky clean, and used those talents to work most notably as a painter. Baptized at a younger age, he loved the lord, and was a long serving member at his churches, Zion Temple Church of God in Christ (where his father preached),  River of Life, Free at Last, and The Way, where he was saved a special seat.

Peter was special, he had a way of connecting with people and held a tight bond with his brothers and sisters, even celebrating his birthday jointly with his sister Sharon. When you saw Peter, you knew one of his siblings wasn’t far behind. That love extended to his wife, Elizabeth, whom he married in 2002. Together for twenty years, Liz took care of her husband above and beyond measures. She was the living expression of “in sickness and in health”, supporting her husband and being there every step of the way after he suffered a fall from a ladder in 2016 that rendered him paralyzed. They shared a blended family, and enjoyed time spent with their children and grandchildren. Peter loved being a father, he was proud of his children, did his best to provide, and was joyful they would serve as his lasting legacy. He was fond of his nieces and nephews, and created some of the funniest moments with them, gaining the nicknames “Uncle Pete” and “Uncle Mailman”.

Always a fighter, Peter peacefully left this earth and prepared to dance on heavens dance floor on June 5th, 2020, after having his wife and children say their final goodbyes. He is preceded in death by his mother and father. Left to cherish memories of Peter are his wife, Elizabeth Moore, children: Tanell Clark, Marsa Halliburton, Kristen Cork, Jermaine Cork, Antwan Cork, Taurean Range, Timika Jackson, Talisha Jackson, Howard Jackson Jr., and Salena Barze; 27 grandchildren; three brothers: Elihu Moore, Michael Moore, Kevin Moore; four sisters: Mary Moore, Pearlie Moore, Sharon Moore, Kathy Moore-Craig; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Peter was a kind, loving person and will truly be missed.

Funeral Service will be at 1PM, Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at THE WAY CHURCH, 550 West 7th Street, St Paul MN.
