Kenneth Roland Ostlund
age 80 of Marine on St. Croix, MN
passed away in a car accident on October 4th, 2013. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barb; children Jennifer (Tom) Evens (Cold Spring, MN); John (Toni) Ostlund (Forest Lake, MN); Scott (Lise) Ostlund (Grant, MN); Ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild; sister Elsie Latendresse (Cottage Grove, MN); and many nieces and nephews. Born the youngest of five to Swedish immigrants on the family farm in Gheen, MN on September 21st, 1933 he left to serve his country in the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army. After returning home he attended and graduated from Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis in 1959. He met his soul mate at her brother's wedding and they were married in January 1960. Ken and Barb started to raise their family and moved from Minneapolis to build their own home in Marine during the summer of 1969. Ken worked as a civil engineer for 3M most of his career, a company he was very proud of, and retired at age 62. He greatly enjoyed his retirement years by spending time with family, documenting the family ancestry, restoring old Farmall tractors and helping his son and daughter-in-law at the Marine Garage. He was an avid cribbage and 500 player and loved to play solitaire on the computer in his free time. He was very proud of his Swedish heritage and sought opportunities, such as volunteering at the Gammelgarden museum, to speak Swedish and pass along Swedish traditions. He was an active member of the Lions Club and Christ Lutheran Church in Marine. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed and has left countless cherished memories.
