Kevin Sundquist

Sundquist, Kevin John, age 70, of St. Louis Park, MN. After a stroke, he died peacefully in hospice care on April 22, 2022.

Kevin was born June 14, 1951 in Chicago, IL. He lived in Escanaba, MI and Minneapolis, MN with his parents, Leonard & Dorothy, and brother Paul. In 8th grade, they moved to Alexandria, VA, where Kevin met Susan Czapiewski in Algebra 2 Trig class at Thomas Jefferson High School. Despite multiple “hijinks” in and out of class, Kevin graduated from Jefferson in 1969 and earned his BS in chemistry and physics at Roanoke College in Salem, VA. In the summer of 1970, Kevin and Susan exchanged a kiss in the Lincolnia Park swimming pool. The rest was history. They moved to St. Louis Park, MN in 1974, raising two boys, Dan and Jef. Kevin was proud of his knowledge of science and engineering, which afforded him a long and successful career as a salesman and business owner in the medical technology field. For these past 2 ½ years, his granddaughters Cora and Mia gave “Kubby” limitless joy and the opportunity to be silly.

Kevin’s mother, Dorothy, passed along an insatiable sweet tooth; teaching him that “life is short, eat dessert first.” He relished motorcycling, bicycling, shooting, collecting, coaching youth soccer, and watching Formula 1 racing. His knowledge of collectible knives was encyclopedic. His collection was stupendous. What made his life worth living were his granddaughters, watching his sons lead successful lives, fixing things, doing math puzzles every morning, using his computer, listening to music, being useful to others, and hugging/touching the people he loved.

Throughout his life, Kevin made many close friends who will remember him for his generosity, storytelling, strong convictions, and big heart.

Kevin asked that “instead of a funeral, (we) have a party with food and drink. Play music from Zappa, Clapton and other great guitarists.” Therefore, all are invited to celebrate Kevin at the Black Forest Inn, Minneapolis, MN on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 12-3 pm.
