L. Ron Becker
Age 78. Passed away peacefully in his wife's arms on Jan. 28, 2018 of pancreatic cancer.
Preceded in death by his parents, Olin and Dorothy, and son, Jon. Survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Debra, daughter Darci Schriber (Toby), and granddaughter Beth Topper, grandson Jonnie Becker, sister Janie Patton (Bill). Mother-in-law Arlene Johnson, Sisters-in-law, Pam Polasky (Jerry) and Dana Zagzebski (Dan), Brothers-in-law, Steve Johnson (Merrilee), Tom Johnson, and Tim Johnson (Janet), Eleven nieces and nephews and thirteen great nieces and nephews.
Ron attended OSU. He worked in the broadcasting field for forty-two years. He began in radio and became a TV news anchor in Oklahoma City. He moved on to become an NBC news correspondent based in Cleveland, OH and then an anchor/news director of WXIA-TV in Atlanta, staying with Gannett TV in Washington D.C. and Boston. He ended his career in Wilmington, NC as general manager of WECT-TV. While there he served on the Associated Press Board of Broadcasters and the North Carolina Board of Broadcasters. In 2001 he moved to Houston to become the Managing Partner of Patton & Associates, oil and gas drilling consultants.
Retired in Stillwater, MN. Ron was a generous soul and a true gentleman. He loved golfing, boating, fishing, hunting, jewelry making and woodworking. He was a great story-teller, a man of integrity, quick wit and humor. He loved people and people loved him.
Saturday, March 3, 2018, a Celebration of his Life will be held at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd. Stillwater, MN. Visitation at 9:30 and Service with Pastor Chris Bellefeuille and Pastor Deb Ost at 11a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in his name to Lakeview Hospice (1715 Tower Dr W, Stillwater, MN 55082) or Mayo Clinic, Cancer Research, Department of Development (Mayo Clinic, 200 First St SW, Rochester, MN 55905), or Trinity Lutheran Church (115 4th St N, Stillwater, MN 55082)
