L. Donald Lobitz

Died on July 25th at the age of 97. He was born and raised on the family farm in Watertown, MN. He was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel; brother, Lloyd; and daughter, Heidi. He is survived by his wife, Gayle; son,  Mike; daughters, Nancy Lobitz and Jill (Pat)  Kinney; stepsons, Stephen (Sarah) Bergen, Doug and Jim Bergen; and his sister, Arlys (Lee) Kempf. Also survived by grandchildren, Carley, Nicole, Burk, Collin, Kaija, Annika, Molly, Emily, Kate, and Henry; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.

Don graduated from Watertown High School in 1943 and attended Gustavus Adolphus, completing his B.S. in education at Saint Cloud State. He acquired a Master’s degree from Mankato State and a Specialist degree from St. Thomas.  He went on to have a vibrant and illustrious 36 year career as a Principal for the Stillwater School District. Upon his retirement in 1988, while Principal at Stonebridge Elementary, the school was recognized as a National School of Excellence.

Don loved traveling the United States and world with his wife, Gayle.  He was an active golfer, member of the Lion's Club, singer in the church choir and past president of the church council, a dedicated participant in weekly Bible studies, and a volunteer at Courage St. Croix. 

Memorial service Wednesday, August 2, 2023, 12:00 P.M. at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 115 4^th Street North, Stillwater with visitation beginning at 10:30 A.M.
