Lois (Jay) Larson of Stillwater, MN.
Passed away on May 20th, 2023 at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, MN at the age of 80. Jay is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Sr. and Ruby Larson; sister, Donna Mae; brothers, Oscar “Smiley” Larson, Jr. and Kenneth Larson; sisters-in-law, Lila Larson and Marianne Larson; and foster nephew, David Larson.
She is survived by long-time friend, Pam Ringsmith; sister-in-law, Janie Larson; nieces and nephews, Grace (Terry) Finch, Rebecca (Chip Andela) Larson, Rick (Stephanie )Larson, Randy (Shelly) Larson, Donn (Suzi Larson), Janel (Mike) Sullivan, Dave (Shelley) Larson, and Bradley Larson; numerous great nieces and great nephews.
Lois Jo Ann Larson was born on July 31st, 1942 in Yankton, SD. On September 14th, 1943 she was lovingly adopted by Oscar C. and Ruby Larson at the age of 14 months. She joined her two older brothers to complete their family.
Lois received her education in Hudson, SD and graduated from Hudson High School in 1960. She was active in choir and band. Lois had a beautiful voice and sang solos and duets for many local events, funerals and weddings. She was also an accomplished trumpet player.
Lois attended South Dakota State University and graduated with a Teaching Degree in 1964. She was Physical Education teacher in Watertown, SD for 12 years from 1964 through 1976. She continued her education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO where she received her Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology. In 1976 she became the Athletic Director at St. Catherine’s University in St. Paul, MN. She remained at St. Kate’s until her retirement.
Lois enjoyed fishing, camping and socializing at the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Stillwater. She was an active member of the Stillwater Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, always there to participate in community and fundraising events. Many friendships were formed there.
