Lucy Madson

Lucy Lucille Madson (nee Sykora)

Lucy was born November 9, 1929 in Storden, MN to Sylvia and Frank Sykora.  Lucy was the fifth of 7 children.

Lucy grew up on a farm and loved everything about it.  A tomboy, her passion was horseback riding.  After graduating from Storden High School in 1947, she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Windom as a telephone operator.

In 1949 she married her high school sweetheart, Wayland Madson.  Except for working at the elementary school for a few years, Lucy was a stay at home mother to their 5 daughters.

Her family was very industrious and hard working, Lucy was no different.  She used her creativity and artistic ability to make a wonderful home for her family and friends.  She was an excellent seamstress and sewed for her family and others in need.

Lucy was quite athletic and enjoyed golf, reading sewing, entertaining and traveling with her family.

She was a believer in Jesus Christ and her love for Him spurred her on to a life of service to Him and others.  She was a member of different organizations over the years but was always very active in her church.  She taught Sunday School, worked in the nursery and served in the kitchen.  She loved nothing more than seeing a need and meeting it.

Lucy passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023 at the age of 93.  She was preceded in death by husband, Wayland; her infant son; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She will be sorely missed by her daughters, Marsha (Jon) Larson, Lynn (Greg) Thomas, Connie (Bob) Arnold, Cheryl (Mike) Fregeau, Pam (Tom) Miller; 11 grandchildren and  13 great-grandchildren; brother, Merle Sykora (Tom Olson); many nieces and nephews.

Service Monday, April 3, 2023, 11:00 A.M. at WOODBURY BAPTIST CHURCH, 6695 Upper Afton Road, Woodbury, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment Storden Baptist Cemetery.
