RHEINBERGER
Margaret "Marguerite" Mary
World Traveler at Age 95
Took her final flight on Tuesday, Sept. 13, leaving from her home rather than MSP without need for TSA pre-check. Her current passport, driver's license, or Delta Platinum Medallion Member status were not necessary for her life-earned destination to Heaven.
Our Mom, Marguerite, was born In Boston on Jan. 5, 1921, the first of five children born to Mary Ann and Michael J. Duffin, both of whom had immigrated from Ireland.
She worked for Canada Dry Co., Swift & Co., the Commonwealth of the State of Massachusetts, the War Department (Department of Defense), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Ford Motor Co., Northern Pacific Railway (Burlington Northern) and the State of Minnesota. In 1946, she married our Dad, John (Jack) H. Rheinberger, an FBI agent at that time. They were married a few months shy of 50 years when he passed away in 1996.
She graduated from the University of Minnesota with four majors and then went on to graduate school in psychology. A dedicated life-long learner, she always enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others.
With a keen and unending zest for knowledge and exploration, our Mom had traveled all over the world by 1991. After a 15-year break, her travels really picked up in frequency and destination. While we never asked why she wanted to suddenly travel again at age 84, we made a point to assist her so that she would have a very enriched life on Earth before she left it. Many said she "lived to travel" and that Stillwater had become a layover.
Two years ago, she reached Delta Platinum Gold status (accumulated over 50, 000 miles in one calendar year). At that time, former Delta CEO Richard Anderson sent her a birthday note commenting on this rare achievement at her age, "I think that is pretty cool!" In December of 2015, she upgraded by obtaining Platinum Medallion status (requiring 75, 000 miles though she had several thousands more). She was on target to continue her 2016 Platinum Medallion status for 2017, until she encountered obstacles that kept impeding her unbelievable internal drive to overcome them. Ironically, neither distance nor desire would be what would ground her.
At the time of her death, our Mom had long been booked and looking forward to attending her first Presidential Inaugural in DC this coming January.
She was a devoted mother, a 60+ year member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Stillwater and its Altar and Rosary Society, and a former member of a Stillwater Public Library-based book club, among others.
She was a very loving, kind, generous, quiet and peaceful person, but her silence is now deafening to those of us who will always love and miss our Mom dearly!
Survived by children John, Frank (Karen), Dr. Tom (Francie), Mary Ann, Marguerite "Margot," Joe, and Paul (Linda); four grandchildren, Meghan, Nick, Jamie and Jack; sister Tina Duffin; sister-in-law Ginny Duffin, many nieces, nephews and "younger" friends.
Memorials preferred to Good Samaritan Society Home Care, 563 W. County Rd. B, Roseville, MN 55113.
Private services are scheduled.
