Marian passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on October 9th at age 91. Marian Hewitt grew up in Grand Forks, ND where she met her husband of 63 years, Paul Gislason, who preceded her in death four years ago. A graduate of UND, Marian married Paul upon his return from WWII and put him through medical school and specialty training. Soon thereafter, the couple moved to Mankato, MN where they enjoyed fifty wonderful years. They split their retirement years between winters in Rio Verde, AZ and beautiful Lake Washington in southern Minnesota.
Marian can be best remembered as graceful. Graceful with family and friends. Graceful as a hostess. Graceful on the ski slope and golf course. While Marian never sought to be the center of attention, she was the loving center of her family and community.
Marian is survived by: sisters Ruth Bustin and Jean Jabbera; children Scott (Candace) of St. Paul, MN and Jane (Patrick) Arcand of Gem Lake, MN; grandchildren RJ (Katie) Osborne, Nichole Osborne (Brenndon Struk), Will and Anna Gislason; and great-grandchildren Oakley and Cannon Osborne.
Special thanks to: Pastor Bruce Nelson and the caring staff of Waverly Gardens, North Oaks, MN; and Laura Bier and her colleagues at Heartland Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 14th with a visitation one hour prior at Waverly Gardens, 5919 Centerville Road, North Oaks, MN. Memorials preferred to either the National Parkinson Foundation MN or the Waverly Gardens Chapel Fund.
