Marilyn Mertens

"Mert", age 71, Born in Jordan, MN. Graduated from Hamline University with a degree in Physical Education. Taught at Mounds View High School from 1954-87. Mert devoted her life to the education of young people. She was active in the developement of girl's athletics at Mounds View HS. Mertie coached many young women long before high schools provided athletic competition for them, and was the first coach of the varsity gynastics team. After retirement, Mert focused on her love of antiques and love of the outdooors. She volunteered at Warner Nature Center and was part owner of Amore Antiques in Anoka. Mert is survived by Kaye Jensen, Her best friend; Kaye's children and grandchildren, Mert's adopted family; sister, Carol (Gary) Omodt; brother, Michael; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Helen Mertens. Service Thursday 11:00 am at Bradshaw, 4600 Greenhaven Drive at Hwy 96. Interment Spirit Hill Cemetery, Jordan, Mn. Visitation Wed. 6-8:30 pm and also 1/2 hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to Warner Nature Center, Marine on the St. Croix, Mn.
