Marjorie Welling Hannon, 88, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2017 at The Pillars Hospice Home in Oakdale, Minnesota. She was born on January 2, 1929 in Duluth to Walter and Esther Welling. She graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School in 1946. As a young person she was an avid piano player and organist, and also played the bassoon.
Marjorie attended nursing school at Ancker Hospital in Saint Paul where she earned her RN license in 1949. She worked in the post-surgery unit at Ancker and taught nursing arts at the school of nursing before leaving the workforce to care for her growing family. Marjorie was married to Dr. Donald Hannon for a number of years and they raised seven children on Fairmount Ave in Saint Paul. In 1971, she returned to nursing at Saint Paul Ramsey Medical Center, where she worked in the tuberculosis unit and later was promoted to Head Nurse on Neurology (9 East) where she was lauded for her exceptional attitude and dedication to the vocation.
Marjorie retired from nursing in 1994, and quickly busied herself with hobbies and her grandchildren, traveling between Fort Myers, FL and Pickering, Ontario. She loved to play golf and mahjong, and always welcomed visitors into her home. She lived in the Six Lakes retirement community where she met her partner Elwood Walker, with whom she enjoyed trips to Europe, an Alaskan cruise, and relaxing times at the cottage with the Walker family. Marjorie regularly visited her family in Minnesota and often confused her grandchildren by referring to the couch as the davenport. In her final years she lived in Stillwater, Minnesota where she passed time as a voracious reader and a consummate opponent in Words with Friends.
Marjorie was preceded in death by granddaughter Angela Hannon. She is survived by her sisters: Beverly Adams (H. Kent) of Naples, FL, Donna Brown of Brooklyn Park, MN and Janet Hopman of Portland, OR; her loving partner, Elwood Walker of Pickering, Ontario; her children: Dr. Robert Hannon (Patricia), Kathleen Johnsen, William Hannon (Nancy), Dr. James Hannon (Elizabeth) of Rochester, Paul Hannon (Judge Mary), David Hannon (Jill Gillis) of Waunakee, WI, Margaret "Peg" Heitz (Patrick); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
