Marlys Ruth (Nelson) Lucker
Marlys Lucker, 81, of Lakeland was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on June 27, 2023
surrounded by her loving family.
Marlys was born in River Falls, WI on January 21, 1942 to Lawrence and Izola Nelson and grew
up as the eldest of 3 children on a small farm in Lakeland. From her parents she learned to love
Jesus, work hard and bless others. She also gained a deep appreciation for the simple things in life.
In 1960, she married Leland Jacobs. During their 21 year marriage Marlys devoted herself to
raising their 7 children. As a single mom in the early 1980s she began her 25 year career as a
printer and production manager at Logos Productions.
Throughout her life Marlys gave generously of herself. Whether it was caring for her kids,
preparing meals for sick family or friends, or opening her home to someone in need she always
served others joyfully. She loved well and had the ability to make everyone feel like the most
important person in the world.
In 2004 Marlys married her best friend, Joel Lucker. Together they explored nature and traveled
to beautiful places. She was most at home in their small shack in the woods without
electricity or running water.
Marlys had a strong faith in God, a kind heart and a quiet, calm nature. She also had a sense of
adventure and enjoyed fast snowmobiles and long walks in the woods. She loved to laugh and
play and enjoy the company of her beloved family and friends. In everything she did, she sought
the will of God and strived to be a blessing to others. Her love was evident and felt by all who
knew her. In her death she passes on a legacy of faith and service to her large family.
Marlys was preceded in death by her parents and Joel Lucker, her husband of 9 years. She is
survived by her brothers Marv Nelson (Liz) and Myron (Joan) Nelson and her children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren: Deb (Tim) Kroschel and their 10 children and 15
